With the many print material options available, It can seem overwhelming. This page will help distinguish between print material finishes for product purchases.
Put simply, Spot UV gel reproduction prints are made of lower cost cellulose. While using 6 colour UV gel print method, they will last less time than higher quality prints and are not able to show the same range of colour.
They are highly susceptible to fading and are not guaranteed to last more than 2 years.
Giclée referse to the printing method of applying the pigment inks to each print surface. All Limited Edition Prints are created with the Giclée print method.
Offerings from Ilford and Canson are Fine art materials. Made from high quality cellulose, cellulose/cotton blends as well as 100% cotton rag.
Thick card stocks are used from 200gsm to 310gsm and have much longer lifespans, all being archival, rated to last from 40 to 100+ years.
These premium finishes have higher contrast, are able to hold greater amounts of pigment, providing greater color gamut, contrast and detail.
Archival papers and pigments lock in value long term, eventually the microscopy prints become vintage anatomy art.
